WALTHAM CRICKET CLUB was formed by Mr. Iftikhar Mehmood in 1999. Mr. Mehmood was founder of Playboy Cricket Club, which was formed in the town of Chakwal in the province of Punjab in Pakistan in early 80's. The club was mainly consisted of friends and family members, which later on got scattered due to their studies or other reasons. The club became ineffective although it still exist. The club had many talented cricket players out of which many played first class cricket in Pakistan. In 1991 founder of club immigrated to United Kingdom for his studies and later on got involved with profession of accountancy. In mid nineties most of friends immigrated to England for studies or job opportunities. In late nineties all the friends started to get together on Sundays to play cricket with tape tennis ball in a small park in East London. Tape tennis ball cricket is the most popular form of cricket in Pakistan. Most of friends played league cricket on Saturday as a professional for different clubs in Middlesex, Essex and Berkshire.
In 1999 all the friends decided to form the club which can provide opportunity to all its member and local community to play and enjoy the exciting game of cricket.
Waltham Cricket Club started to play their friendly games in 2000. In cricket season of 2001 Waltham Cricket Club played against some very old and highly rated clubs in Essex, Middlesex, Hertfordshire and Kent and won 90% of their games.
Waltham Cricket Club was given opportunity take part in the ECB National Club Cricket competition 2002. National Cup is the most high profile club cricket competition in England. Over 350 clubs from all over the country take part in this competition.
Waltham Cricket club did exceptional well and got to the regional final of the competition by winning from some very high rated clubs such as Balackheath, Finchley, Sutton and High Wycombe. Waltham lost in the regional final to Saffron Walden, club which won the final of the competition. Being a new club and first time in the competition it was a great success for the club to be in the last 32 club in the competition.
Waltham Cricket Club's main aim is to provide some quality cricket playing facility to its members. Membership is open for everyone subject to approval of management committee. We do provide some excellent coaching facilities. Some old and current test cricketers are member of our club, which do provide learning opportunity to youngsters while playing with them. We have very effective colt's section and some very talented young players.Waltham cricket club is taking part in following competition from 2003 and onward.
